Crisp snap peas9/5/2023 ![]() I suppose you could try this by hand, but fair warning …you need to use some serious muscle power in whisking the base as you slowly add the oil. Makes 1 cup.Ī food processor is suggested for making this tarragon aioli… Serve with Crispy Sugar Snap Peas or refrigerate, covered, for up to 5 days. Scrape down the sides of bowl again and, if desired, season with up to 1 teaspoon additional lemon juice. With the processor running, slowly drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil. Using the side of your knife blade, press on the mixture while rocking the blade back and forth. Then combine it with the salt right on your cutting board. Grab your best chef knife and mince the garlic as small as you can. Our friends at Bon Appétit share their insight on this subject. The final result may look similar but the two sauces have distinctly different flavors. Mayo is typically made from egg yolks and canola oil. Although aioli and mayonnaise are both creamy emulsions, aioli is usually made from garlic and olive oil. ![]() ![]() Some folks think of it simply as homemade mayonnaise but that’s not quite right. Since the frying process is a quick one, be sure to have your tarragon aioli prepared and ready for dipping. Even the kids will be happy to eat their vegetables. ![]() Give them a dip in the homemade tarragon aioli and you’ll be sold. Within minutes, they are fried to golden perfection. Are you a fan of Italian fritto misto? These crispy sugar snap peas have a similar flavor and texture with their semolina batter coating. ![]()

Fake call to friends online9/5/2023 ![]() It is important to know what you are doing before committing this act because it could have serious consequences depending on the situation. Sometimes, they’re just for fun but other times they can be used as a form of revenge or intimidation. Prank Calls are when you call someone and pretend to be another person. These services are intended for entertainment purposes only as designated by their Terms & Conditions page before use. One way of doing this is with these free online websites that allow you to do so through your web browser or phone app like Skype. Alternatively, the video will stop abruptly at the end-but the video call won't finish.Social media sites can also be a great source of stress relief, but sometimes it’s nice to avoid the hassle and just make prank calls. Many fake videos will loop around to the start after a certain amount of time elapses. If the video call comes from someone you know, and their contact information is correct, what is the video content? Is the person allegedly calling you even in the video? Is the person calling you on your contacts list? If not, does the name mean anything to you? Alternatively, does the contact name appear as the name of an app? Resizing the video will distort the proportions of the video, so it looks out of shape (think extra long or extra wide face, and so on). Whoever is fake video calling you will resize a video to fit the webcam window or the app they're using. If the fake video comes from an online source, check for watermarks or other signs the video is stolen. The quality of the video is usually poor. In short, there are a few tell-tale signs regarding a fake video call: Either that or the threat of phishing scams relating to the latest news cycle. But for the most part, would someone go to that length to create a fake video call to fool you?įor most people, tech support scams are a more pressing issue. There are, of course, tricks to skirt these issues-fake accounts, fake phone numbers, false names, pictures, and so on. Similar limitations are present with other video calling apps that link to a phone number, such as making a fake video call with FaceTime. Making a truly fake video call on WhatsApp Desktop is incredibly difficult because the contact information is on display during the connection. You can still install the plugin if you want, but it is no longer the most efficient way.Īt other times, you'll know a fake video call is false because of the contact information. While the VirtualCam plugin once required you to download and install it manually, as of OBS version 26.0.0 (launched in August 2020), virtual webcam functionality is now built into OBS directly. Once you install the plugin, you can output media to the virtual webcam, then select the virtual webcam in your video call options. The plugin creates a virtual webcam option in OBS. OBS-VirtualCam is an open-source plugin for OBS. Although it is a cross-platform tool, the following steps only work with OBS on Windows due to the plugin required to create a virtual webcam.ĭownload: OBS for Windows (Free) 2. Configure OBSįirst, you need to download and install OBS. Here's how you make a fake video call using OBS. Even though OBS has more tools on offer, the software isn't difficult to use. However, as OBS is completely free, you can use the full range of video streaming and broadcasting options. In this case, you can use OBS to stream a fake video in place of your webcam. You can use OBS to stream to multiple platforms simultaneously, record media, and much more. OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is a popular cross-platform, open-source video streaming tool. The process is slightly different for each video calling app, but you'll find the Man圜am Virtual Webcam option in the camera or webcam options. But you must select the Man圜am webcam option in your video call app to display your fake video. You can make your video call once you configure the fake video source. Do the same for whichever fake video source you choose. If you want to use a YouTube video, copy and paste the video URL into Man圜am. ![]() Select the video source you want to use, such as a webcam, IP camera, YouTube video, web source URL, and so on. Underneath the Presets panel are the video source options. Open Man圜am, then under Presets, select Preset 1. You can use presets for your fake video call. Create a Man圜am Preset & Choose Your Fake Video Source ![]() Once your download completes, install Man圜am. Configure Man圜amįirst, you need to download, install, and configure Man圜am. Here's how you make a fake video call using Man圜am. For instance, you can use more than one webcam with Skype or other voice-calling apps or stream a completely different video that appears instead of your webcam. For those apps you can use, Man圜am allows you to alter the appearance of your webcam extensively. ![]()

Lowrider beach cruiser9/5/2023 ![]() ![]() In the depression-era 1930s, bicycles were seen as a luxury. We can already see the genre’s distinctively wide, swept-back handlebars and humped top-tube in the 1924 Mead Ranger. Where did the beach cruiser come from? How did these big, slow, flashy vehicles evolve to become the United States’ most iconic bike? And how did those distinctive, flowing frames come to be? The beach cruiser’s past can be traced back to the cruisers of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. If you like to roll easy and look good doing it, you can’t lose cruising. Your cruiser is not just confined to the beach. They’re not built for speed or long distance riding, but they can easily cut through a vacant lot or unkempt back-alley to pick up some corner-store groceries and a 40oz. Wide tires easily handle sandy paths and boardwalks.īeach cruisers are usually heavy and stable. At low pressures, they provide a level of comfort that is only now being discovered by mountain and road cyclists. At the beach, cyclists seek comfort and durability in a bike that can handle a sandy boardwalk and short, flat rides.Įnter balloon tires. Delicate 10-speed road bikes tended to ‘harsh one’s mellow’ amidst this slow-burn lifestyle. Locals Only – Are They Just for the Beach?īeach cruisers were adopted by Southern Californians and other coastal residents in the 1970s. They’re an incredibly popular choice for a simple, comfortable bike. Ungeared options suit flatlands and the coastal, beach-side life. The beach cruiser suits relaxed and casual cyclists, infrequent riders, seniors and vacationers. ![]() Most specimens are made from hi-tensile steel, which is resilient, sturdy and repairable. Beach cruisers are heavy, so they’re geared with an easy-going ratio for laid-back rolling down the boardwalk and beach-side path. This keeps maintenance and adjustments to an absolute minimum. When it comes to gears, single is simple. You’ll never be hunched over the handlebars, with your derriere higher than your head. On most cruisers, your legs will be stretched ahead of you, as the crank and pedals sit in front of the seat. There’s no question that the beach cruiser is one of the best looking types of bike out there.īeach cruisers put the rider in a relaxed position, sitting upright with arms extended. Sometimes simply known as a ‘cruiser’, these bikes rock sweeping lines and wide balloon tires for comfort. The beach cruiser is a simple, stylish bike for the unrushed rider. Strange horticulture cards9/5/2023 ![]() In Master Gardener, Joel Edgerton plays Narvel Roth, a horticulturist who tends the grounds of the Gracewood estate, a former plantation owned by Norma Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). ![]() It is only now, in what might be the twilight of his career, that he has begun to fully develop his own take on an approach to cinema that began to fascinate him so many decades ago. Prior to First Reformed, Schrader could still rightly assert, as he did in 1976, that “the similarities between my critical thinking and my screenwriting are more coincidental than anything else they just don’t seem to be part of the same thing”. But in large part, interest and opportunity led him elsewhere. His films sometimes flirted with elements of the transcendental style references to Bresson, for instance, are peppered throughout his oeuvre, most obviously in the endings of American Gigolo (1980) and Light Sleeper (1992). ![]() Shortly after its publication, Schrader crossed over from theory to practice, largely leaving behind the book’s concerns. ![]() Schrader’s 1972 book Transcendental Style in Film: Ozu, Bresson, Dreyer built on the insights he gleaned as a short-form critic, delineating an ascetic form of filmmaking that “seeks to maximize the mystery of existence it eschews all conventional interpretations of reality: realism, naturalism, psychologism, romanticism, expressionism, impressionism, and, finally, rationalism”. As he wrote that year in a two-part review for the Los Angeles Free Press, this finely chiselled film about a petty thief “concerns the progression of a soul from confinement to freedom” and “end with an inexplicably spiritual act… an unpremeditated act of love” – attributes that notably also mark each instalment of the recent trilogy. In 1969, he saw a film that would transform his life and propel him towards filmmaking: Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket (1959). After a strict Calvinist upbringing, Schrader fell hard for the profane world of the movies and became a critic. But the chilly restraint and pull away from realism found in his three most recent films recall an even earlier moment, one prior to his initial forays into screenwriting and directing. He is perhaps best known as the writer of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976), his second produced screenplay, following on the heels of Sydney Pollack’s The Yakuza (1974). Schrader’s late style takes him back to the start. They are stories of guilt, forgiveness and redemption stories that catch their protagonists in a tangle of worldly trouble and ask whether there is such a thing as righteous violence. These ‘man in a room’ movies follow solitary individuals with pasts that weigh heavily on the present. Schrader has thrown off the weight of studio pressures to work independently, making do with relatively low budgets and holding on to final cut – securing a crucial freedom after feeling that 2014’s Dying of the Light had been mauled by producers. These uncompromising films prove something that feels increasingly impossible in our franchise-laden landscape: American cinema can be profoundly philosophical and have popular appeal. This summer brings the theatrical release of Master Gardener, the concluding entry in an informal trilogy he began with the Oscar-nominated First Reformed (2017) and continued with The Card Counter (2021). The broken-down horse called movies keeps limping on and Schrader is still astride it. Today, the writer-director is as prolific as he has ever been. There’s something so very enthralling about Strange Horticulture the way it lets you take the lead and figure out everything by yourself will really appeal to those with an analytical mind. That decade has come and gone, and things happily haven’t turned out exactly as he predicted. Quotes about listening to others9/5/2023 ![]() ![]() Help me listen well and truly enter into another’s world.“So many words get lost. That kind of listening is not natural for me, not something I can do alone, which is why I find myself praying: “ Lord, help me give up control and perspective and the need to prove myself. It’s living in the moment with the person you are listening to and truly feeling their world. It’s releasing your perspective, holding back your impulse to speak or prove yourself. Listening well is about giving up control. Listening well to others turns out to be more difficult than it sounds! I love Brendon Burchard’s words: I don’t know exactly how to start moving to these ‘discomfort-zones’ but I do feel God’s invitation to be open to the opportunities and encounters when they arise. “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me’” (Matt. Opening up my ears and heart to ‘the other’ in my society is frightening, yet also what Christ calls me to do. Listening well in these situations will take me out of my comfort zone, that place that feels so safe and well…comfortable. Or those in deep, deep pain-the grieving, the addicts, the terminally ill. Or those with very different political or religious viewpoints. Angry, disenfranchised voices, for instance. “ A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion,” (Proverbs 18:2) – ouch! Listening requires me to get out of my comfort zone Sometimes the ‘not saying’ is the most difficult of all for-slightly opinionated-me. What I really want to learn to do is to listen deeply to somebody while simultaneously listening to what God might be wanting me to say (or not say) at that moment. In fact, it happens any time my pride rears its head. It happens when I make snap judgments about somebody without truly getting to know them. It also happens in those ‘competitive’ relationships (anybody else have a few of those?) where I try ‘outshine’ someone. It happens when I tell Roy or my daughters precisely what I think they should be doing in a situation. When ‘others over self’ gets flipped around and I push onto centre stage, listening-and understanding-break down. In relationships with a bit more distance-my sister, mom and friends-I may do better at listening, although in some of these I find myself jostling to be heard, understood and thought well of. Or perhaps because I am so deeply invested in their lives that, rather than seeking to understand, I seek to advise and direct them instead. Maybe this is because I think I know them well enough already (so I don’t have the drive to understand them). Surprisingly, I recognise that listening to those closest to me–Roy and my young adult daughters-is difficult for me. I listen better in some relationships than in others Here are a few of my insights as I grappled with the questions-my personal challenges to listening well. Perhaps, instead of assessing my own listening skills, I should rather ask those around me how I’m doing (while maintaining eye contact and not interrupting even if I don’t like what they say) but for now, my own assessment will have to do. Maybe introverts have a slight edge when it comes to listening!īut when I dig a bit deeper, I find situations where truly listening to understand is challenging for me. Also, I almost always prefer to get people talking so that the spotlight isn’t on me. On the positive side, I like people and am particularly interested to hear their stories-a good starting point for listening. Like most wise, pithy quotes that one forces me to turn a slightly critical eye on myself and ask, how well do I really listen? Do I desire to understand the people around me? My answers are a little mixed. Until we truly want to understand the other person, we’ll never listen well.” “The key to good listening isn’t technique, it’s desire. I think Steve Goodier hits the nail on the head with this simple statement: However, listening well to others goes beyond a list of ‘how-to’s’. Most of these seem instinctive (except perhaps the repeating back what you hear-that has always had a slightly contrived feel about it for me). All very valid, I’m sure, and probably precisely the techniques taught to counsellors across the globe. If you Google ‘how to listen well’ you get a barrage of information about making good eye contact, asking relevant questions, repeating back what you hear and not interrupting people. ![]() Today I want to wade into a different kind of listening that has difficult undercurrents of its own: listening well to others. In last week’s blog, I introduced the first of my words for 2022-the word listen-and shared both my struggles and insights on listening to God’s voice. Listening is an art that requires attention over talent, spirit over ego, others over self. ![]()

Black obsidian crystal chakra9/5/2023 ![]() He tried to answer this perplexing question, “How did the structures collapse in near-symmetrical fashion when the damage was clearly not symmetrical?” As a licensed structural engineer trained in buildings’ responses to stress, Lomba saw more on the screen than did the average viewer. “Something is wrong with this picture,” thought Nathan Lomba, S.E., P.E., of Eureka, California, as he watched televised replays of the Twin Tower collapses on September 11, 2001. Every day, more professionals - all of them carefully vetted by AE's verification team - join the existing signatories. That's why he and nearly 3,000 other degreed and/or licensed architects and engineers - including 60 structural engineers who hail from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and Europe - have signed the petition that demands an unbiased, unimpeachable investigation of the World Trade Center's destruction. In the years since founding AE911Truth, Gage has discovered that those who take time to look at the facts overwhelmingly agree that vital questions about the forensic evidence and video testimony remain unanswered by government officials. He realized that an organized effort by building professionals and scientists was needed to shine light on the government's false version of 9/11. Their courage in stepping up to speak the “inconvenient truth” secures for them a venerable place as “the scientific backbone” of AE911Truth.įive years after 9/11, San Francisco Bay Area architect Richard Gage, AIA, began raising technical questions among his professional colleagues about the destruction of the Twin Towers and 47-story WTC Building 7. The members of this distinguished group, numbering 60 to date, are experts in the capability of steel-frame structures to resist all kinds of forces. While much of AE911Truth's success can be ascribed to the perseverance of its founder and the other members of its board of directors, who have remained focused on the science, none of its achievements would have been possible without the professional credibility lent by an ever-growing contingent of professional signatories: structural engineers. ![]() One outcome of our insistence on remaining true to our mission is that our ranks of signatories has swelled from less than a dozen to more than 3,000 building and technical professionals who are petitioning the government for a new, independent investigation of the catastrophic destruction at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Additionally, over 20,000 citizens have signed the AE911Truth petition, and more than 500,000 supporters have "liked" our Facebook page. We do scientific, cogent, and comprehensive analyses, backed by forensically-tested, unassailable facts. When using crystals to balance and heal the Third Eye, it can take time before symptoms of imbalance completely subside.Editor's Note: Since its inception in 2006, Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth has remained steadfast in its mission of exposing the flaws in the claims made by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - namely, that the impact of two planes and the resulting fires brought down three steel-framed skyscrapers on September 11, 2001. ![]() On images with large depth of field – that is, more sharpness throughout the image – it seemed Luminar was struggling somewhat to accurate gauge the depth of the shot. ![]() We went in with high hopes for Relight with Luminar Neo acquitting itself well elsewhere, there seemed a chance this might to an end the days of laboriously masking out a subject and endlessly dodging and burning them to get the desired result.īut we got a mixed set of results. Relight is a tool that analyses the depth in an image, detecting the foreground near the camera and the background further away, and then allows you to make exposure corrections based on that information. Photographers of all experience levels will know the challenge of correctly exposing a subject when they’re against a very dark or bright surface and will similarly know the challenges associated with correcting missed exposures in software. The inclusion of the AI-powered Relight is another tool with heaps of potential. One image with a pair of enormous dust spots failed completely, with Neo unable to detect or remove them. Where we had nothing but untrammeled success for removing powerlines, removing dust proved a little more hit and miss. Under the same set of erasing tools you also get automatic dust spot removal. Not only did Luminar Neo accurately detect powerlines – including one case where the cables faded into an area of over-exposure – but it made an exceedingly decent fist of removing them as well, deleting the lines and leaving no trace of the efforts made to conceal them. We tried this on four or five images, with powerlines that featured either prominently or diminutively in the composition, and came away impressed. For example, there’s the specific but frequently helpful option to remove powerlines, the blight of landscape photographers everywhere. Take, for example, the AI crop tool, which attempts to detect your subject and then line it up in the frame in a pleasing way or Luminar’s famed 'sky replacement', which will swap out your gunmetal-grey winter clouds for something with a bit more pizazz.īoth of those are present in Luminar AI, though – Luminar Neo brings with it a whole new set of tricks and toys. ![]() What makes Luminar Neo interesting is its AI tools, which claim to relieve you, the retoucher, of much of the technical strain of image editing, and even some of the creative choices you’ll have to make. Industry standards such as curves, white balance and so on are all in here, allowing you to do the simple stuff, like punching up colors and contrast, correcting color balance, cropping images to get your compositions right and so on.Īll of which, of course, you can do in just about any image editor. Whether you buy the AI hype or not, Luminar Neo has a strong set of image editing tools. ![]() |
